A novel MINLP-based representation of the original complex model for predicting gasoline emissions

چکیده
The Environmental Protection Agency introduced Reformulated Gasoline (RFG) requirements as a measure to reduce emissions from gasoline-powered vehicles in certain geographic areas. The EPA developed models for predicting emissions as a function of gasoline properties and established statutory baseline emissions from a representative set of gasolines. RFG is a key driving force for investment in the North American refining industry. All reformulated gasoline requires certification via the complex model, and all refiners and importers calculate emissions performance reductions from the statutory baseline gasoline. The RFG models introduce increasing complex constraints with the major limitation that it is implicitly defined through a series of complicated disjunctions assembled in the form of spreadsheets by the EPA. This implicit and cumbersome representation of the emissions predictive models renders rigorous optimization and sensitivity analysis very difficult. In this paper, we discuss how the federal government requirements for reformulated gasoline can be restated as a set of mixedinteger nonlinear programming (MINLP) constraints with the aid of disjunctive programming techniques.

متن کاملStudying Simultaneous Injection of Natural Gas and Gasoline Effect on Dual Fuel Engine Performance and Emissions
According to the Global Fuel Crisis, it seems necessary to use alternative fuel instead of gasoline. Since the natural gas is cheaper, have higher frequency than gasoline and less pollution, it is a suitable fuel. Many efforts have been done in order to replace gasoline with natural gas. One of the methods is to inject natural gas and gasoline fuel simultaneously and to use the benefits of both...

The Gas to Gasoline (GTG) process includes conversion of natural, flare, and associated gas into synthetic fuels that can be compositionally upgraded and adjusted into different useful hydrocarbon fuels including gasoline, liquid petroleum gas (LPG), and fuel gas. Commonly, the GTG process involves three stages: 1) Synthesis gas (syngas) production unit 2) Methanol production unit 3) Methanol t...
متن کاملEffect of Injection Characteristics on Emissions and Combustion of a Gasoline Fuelled Partially-premixed Compression Ignition Engine
Conventional compression ignition (CI) engines are known for their high thermal efficiency compared to spark ignited (SI) engines. Gasoline because of its higher ignition delay has much lower soot emission in comparison with diesel fuel. Using double injection strategy reduces the maximum heat release rate that leads to NOx emission reduction. In this paper, a numerical study of a gasoline fuel...
